School For Inventors

Why Computing?

Can you imagine life without the invention of the Internet?

Never mind the hours of net surfing and angst venting or thrill seeking in chat rooms when we were younger, now that the power of user generated content have lured us into terrains far beyond what many imagined then. Many of us today spend hours on the web, peering into other people's Friendster and Facebook profiles, playing World of Warcraft, updating our blogs, and building our own web widgets. More than a hobby, the Web provides essentials we can't live without: using Google and Wikipedia to navigate through life's unknowns and depending on variants of emails and messengers to keep in touch with our friends. The digits and bits have woven themselves seamlessly into our lives.

And it seems that every invention we have come across in our lifetime -- from search engines to cameras -- is either innately digital or has gone digital. The .com era has bred a new class of inventors: Inventors whose ingenuity is only bounded by their creativity and the ever malleable bits. It's a wonder how far 0s and 1s have taken us. Not so much the old scientists with crazy fizzy white hair, but new age inventors who are young daredevils, raring to take on the world with the two most versatile assets on the planet ever: their brains and the computer.

The story of computing is a compelling tale of imaginative inventors, who regardless of their age, experience and culture, share the same enthusiasm for a future of innovation. Their devotion has translated what was science fiction into life as we now know it.

Nothing seems impossible in the terrains of the evergreen digital heroes who pursue their dreams passionately. The digital future is a gallant novel world for us to stretch and fill if only we could embrace and master its prowess with bold visions... and a heart for imagination.

It could be a world that you invent.

Think about it.
